Backgrounds are an Expansion Pack that adds more backgrounds for the Nexerelin background system.
It can be enabled/disabled with the "Enable "Backgrounds"" config within the Lunalib configuration.

The backgrounds added by this mod tend to either start the user of with something new, change a fundemental part of the gameplay, or offer unique tools that they could not acquire otherwise. Below is a list of all Backgrounds currently in the mod.

Comradery

Rat comradery.png

None of your achivements were made alone, but together with your trusted partner, the only person you feel equal to.
At the start of the game, you get to create an officer of high potential, together with a unique skill from a variety of choices.

Your partner has a max level of 8, can select from 6 skills at level up and can have 3 elite skills.

High Value Target

Rat high value.png

Some factions are less than happy with your continued influence on the sector.
You are constantly watched from the shadows, your position being immediately relayed to multiple parties interested in having you gone for good.

Factions will occasionaly send bounty fleets towards your general location, increasing in strength as your own fleet increases in size.
Bounty fleets can only know of your location if you have recently visited a populated volume of space, and defeating enough of them might send the message that your ascent can no longer be stopped.

Force in numbers

Rat force.png

You are renowned all over the sector for your unique style of wolfpack-like fleet strategies.
Small crafts exceed within your fleet, but the use of larger craft is severely limited.

All frigates and destroyers in your fleet gain several improvements to their performance within combat.
Their combat readiness is increased by 15% and they can stay deployed for an additional 60 seconds before degrading in ability.

They also receive a 20% increase in the maximum speed and maneuverability, 10% improved fire rate and flux dissipation, and have armor increased by 15%.

However as your excellence lies in small craft, cruiser and capital class ships within your fleet are almost entirely unuseable due to your lack of competence. This also applies to logistical ships.

Personal Army

Rat army.png

Your experience as a military official assists your endeavours to this day.
You are experienced in leading multiple squadrons and their officers.

The amount of maximum officers within your fleet is doubled, but their maximum level is reduced by 2, and they can not have more than one elite skill.
You are also much more likely to find officers on colonies.

All ships with officers also provide an effective increase of strength in planetary raids of 10 / 20 / 35 / 50 depending on their hullsize and the total number of marines in the fleet.

The reduction in officer capability may not apply to some special officers.

Neural Shard

Rat neural shard.png

You once salvaged a powerful, experimental neural device, creating a one-man army from your persona alone.
You can take control of all ships within your fleet, but the mental exhaustion from the chip makes it hard to work with others.

All non-automated ships in your fleet without an officer receive a shard of yourself as their pilot.
Those shards share two to three of your own combat skills. Every shard, and yourself, has aggressive behaviour.

You can switch to any ship with a shard immediately by pressing right click while hovering over the ship.
The ship currently controlled has access to all of your skills.

The maximum number of officers able to join your fleet is halved, and you have a harder time finding anyone wanting to join you.

Zero Day Exploit

Rat zero day.png

You spent your days messing with any tech that you can find, eventualy discovering an exploit in guidance systems that no one else is aware of.
You can temporarly hack in to opponents ships and take over control.

Any ship below or at 35 deployment points on the opponents side can be temporarily taken control of by pressing right click while hovering over them.

The maximum duration is between 10 to 20 seconds, based on how many deployment points the targeted ship has. The ability has a 20 second cooldown.

While you are controlling the targeted ship, your own ship is on autopilot.

Exo-Tech Partner

Rat exo crest.png

Your fleet is a trusted partner of the exo-tech corperation, A minor-faction hiding within the fringes of the sector on their mobile colonies.
You made faithfull "Donations" and got rewarded with some of their technologies in exchange.
Despite this, the faction still doesnt recognize you as one of their own, leaving you to fend for yourself.

You begin your journey with 7500 of the factions tokens.
You also get the same benefits as with a partnership.

This background is locked until the player has acquired the Exoship Partnership once in any save.
